Art joined HED in 2007, specifically to work on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Stadium, leading the project from Stage C through to Planning and Tender, with oversight through to handover in 2011. The project was designed to world-class environmental, safety and accessibility standards to front- and back-of-house, and, of course, constrained by an immovable programme and tight budget.
As well as leading the landscape strategy, designing and managing the tight project team, Art led HED’s stakeholder consultation events, and the complex, multi-staged planning submissions.
The Stadium team ran with an advanced programme in parallel with the wider Parklands team, so as well as delivering innovations including the precisely engineered planted embankments, special contamination safety measures, and security lines, the team were charged with ground-testing the famous floral meadows for the wider Parkland team, and were often at the head of the media interest.
